Hybrid cars in the UAE are bridging the gap between traditional ‘ICE’ or petrol-driven internal combustion engine cars and fully electric vehicles or EVs. How does a hybrid work?

Rather than having one source of power (the petrol engine), a hybrid powertrain combines two different sources and switches between them depending on the preference of the driver and their driving requirements. As well as a standard petrol engine, hybrid cars also have electric motors that drive the wheels. While the car is in electric (or ‘Eco’) mode, the overall fuel efficiency of the car increases as you are not using any petrol. When the car is using the electric motors it is also producing zero emissions, making it a greener choice around town. Range in Eco mode is limited, which is why hybrid vehicles also have a petrol engine for longer journeys.

Why drive a hybrid car?

There are several advantages to hybrid vehicles, top of which is fuel efficiency. And because of those lower emissions, they’re also much more environmentally friendly. Hybrid vehicles form part of our Drive Green package and are the ideal way to try out more modern ways of driving in the city using electric power. However, whenever you want to revert to petrol power, a simple twist of the control into regular driving mode will allow the petrol engine to take over.
