Rules And Regulations
You will need a full driving licence and must be over 21 to rent a car in Al Falah. If you are from outside the European Union you will also need an International Driving Permit (IDP). Parking can take time to find a space, with the busiest times from 1-4pm and after 9pm. In 2014, hundreds of new parking bays were built in the area and you’ll find these paid parking spots in the blocks between Khalifa Street, Hamdan Street, Sheikh Zayed Road and Fatima Bint Mubarak Street.
The roads in Abu Dhabi can be congested and accidents are common. Make sure you stick to the speed limits as traffic police can issue on-the-spot fines of up to £500 for minor offences.

Special Attractions: The Corniche stretches along the length of the shore and is home to beautiful white sandy beaches including the Blue Flag Corniche Beach with its palm trees. You can relax in Al Markaziyah Gardens with its playparks for kids and fountains, or enjoy a spot of retail therapy at the Central Market shopping complex – the district is known for its shopping.
Minimum car rental age: Depending on the vehicle group, you must be either 21 or 25 years of age to rent a car in Al Falah. There is no young driver surcharge to reduce this.
Correct side of the road: In Al Falah, as in the rest of the UAE, you drive on the right-hand side of the road and overtake on the left.
Speed limits: Speed limits in Abu Dhabi can vary, as they do across the rest of the UAE. On some main roads, the speed limit can range from 100km/h to 140km/h whilst in built-up areas this usually reduces to around 80km/h. In particularly busy areas the speed limit may be lower.
Driving with children: Children under 12 years of age cannot ride in the front passenger seat without an appropriate rear-facing car seat and the airbag disabled. Children in the rear passenger seats must use appropriate car seats and seat belts.
Toll roads: The Dubai Road and Transport Authority charges road tolls (Salik) when you cross various points. All Hertz rental cars are fitted with a Salik tag which registers each time you use a toll road.
