Hertz in Fujairah

Car rental in Fujairah is all tied up thanks to Hertz’s co-ordinated service. As Fujairah is predominantly a business destination, travellers will likely need to rent a car to get them between offices, hotels and airports quickly and comfortably with minimum fuss. Travelling through Fujairah by car will also keep you out of the extreme heat, making sure you stay fresh as a daisy for your meetings. While in Fujairah, you can easily rent a car from Hertz Sharjah airport.

Fujairah is the youngest of the emirates in the UAE, having become independent from Sharjah in 1952. Although it is growing as a holiday destination, the majority of travellers there are in the emirate for business. That said, there are still some attractions to see if you have time and hire a car in Fujairah. Check out the fort on the outskirts of the city and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the second largest mosque in the UAE.

Driving and Parking in Fujairah

You will need a full driving licence and must be over 21 to rent a car in Fujairah. If you are from outside the United Arab Emirates you will also need an International Driving Permit (IDP). For more information about driving regulations in Fujairah, take a look at our page about renting a car in the UAE.

Driving in Fujairah is a reasonably sedate affair due to the sparse population (around 152,000) and the fairly small number of roads. You can access most of the city using only a few roads so you don’t need to worry too much about navigation. Just remember that UAE citizens are famous for ignoring the rules of the road so take care when driving and make sure you follow the rules yourself!

Parking regulations are strictly enforced in Fujairah. There are plenty of parking spaces around the city and many hotels offer free parking to their customers. Be wary, though, of parking in a disabled bay if you are not permitted to do so when you rent a car in Fujairah. If you are caught then you could face a whopping fine of AED1,000.

Key Routes

One main road connects the centre of Fujairah with the principal hotels, and outlying towns by looping round almost the entire emirate. From this road you can get to pretty much anywhere you may need, making driving in Fujairah fairly easy. The road also connects with the E84 motorway, connecting Fujairah to Dubai.

Major Highways

As Fujairah airport only deals with local flights to Abu Dhabi, you will likely need to drive out of Fujairah for flights in and out of the UAE. The main route out of Fujairah is the E84 motorway, which connects to the desert road into Dubai and, subsequently, Dubai International Airport. This will take you around two-and-a-half hours.

You should take care when driving on the highways and motorways in the UAE as they are fast paced. Speed limits change depending on the road and the conditions but a rule of thumb is that the speed limit on motorways and expressways is between 140km/h and 100km/h (between 85 and 60mph). On desert roads it’s between 120km/h and 100km/h (75 and 60mph) and in urban areas you will be travelling between 60km/h and 50km/h (40 and 30mph). Keep a look out for signs advising you of local limits.
